about

Table song from Guria. Source variant by Garsevan Sikharulidze, Mikheil Koroshinadze, and Vladimer Berdzenishvili, recorded in 1964, see attached clip: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbzBfU8Fzd8

The text is from Shota Rustaveli’s famous epic poem “The Knight in the Tiger’s Skin”, composed in the 12th century.

Voice II - GIorgi Khukhunaishvili.

lyrics

Me Rustveli khelobita, vikm sakmesa ama dari:
Vis morchilobs jari sp’ata, mistvis vkhelob, mistvis mk’vdari;
Davudzlurdi, mijnurdatvis k’vlav ts’amali arsit ari,
Anu momec gank’urneba, anu mits’a me samari.

Translation:

I, Rustveli have composed this work by the folly of
my art. For her whom a multitude of hosts obey, I lose my
wits, I die! I am sick of love, and for me there is no cure
from anywhere, unless she give me healing or the earth a grave.
